Kutani Pincushion - Kokutani

Kutani ware is a type of pottery that uses bright colors, bold and elegant patterns, and a technique called Etsuke painting. Originally Kutani ware started in 1655 in Kaga, Ishikawa prefecture. The pincushion material is made from Noto Futakoshi Chirimen, which has a unique texture, and each piece is threaded by hand with care, one-by-one, to give it a beautiful texture. Chirimen textile started in Japan at the end of the 16th century, and is a fabric with a distinctive weave.
