Hariko Tiger 08 - Sendai

Vintage Sendai Hariko (paper-mache) "Tiger"

The Takahashi Hashime Workshop in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, was founded after the war by the first-generation artist Hashime Takahashi. Initially starting with creative kokeshi dolls, the workshop began producing hariko around the 1950s. A representative piece is the "Zodiac Head-Nodding Hariko," crafted from handmade washi paper. The warmth of handcrafted artistry and the rustic charm of the washi paper contribute to its popularity.
