Eric Nelsen: Anagama Fired Ceramic Pieces

Jizō 04 - Eric Nelsen

Standing Jizō figure. He frequently holds a wish-fulfilling jewel in one hand and a monk's staff (shakujo) in the other.

Jizō is the compassionate bodhisattva who vowed to alleviate the suffering of all beings in the realms of existence and guide souls to salvation, best known as the guardian of children, travelers, and expectant mothers. Historically, statues were placed along rural roads, mountain passes, and treacherous paths to protect travelers and mark safe routes.
