The three traditional motif of pine (sho), bamboo (chiku) and plum flower (bai), are drawn on a canvas. Pine is recognized as the symbol of longevity, bamboo as the symbol of success and the plum flower is represents patience. In Japan, "Sho-Chiku-Bai" has been recognized as an auspicious pattern and often used for celebrations. Two tiers, lined with felt. Urushi (lacquer) is a 100% ecological coating made from the Rhus Verniciflua tree sap mixed with mineral-based pigments. Hand painted on lid features maki-e (gold gilding )ultra fine gold powder over wet lacquer.

To restore luster, polish with a soft dry cloth, and if necessary a drop or two of vegetable oil. Avoid direct sunlight, heaters, excessive moisture.
