Japanese traditional candles = Warosoku. This is a Japanese candle that expresses harmony by mixing hemp charcoal powder with the wax from the Japanese sumac nut. Hemp has been considered sacred since ancient times in the Japanese Shinto religion. It is also used as a tool to ward off evil spirits. This Japanese candle expresses the harmony of Shintoism.
There is no scent, little soot, and made by hand applying wax layer by layer. These are modern day candles made the old-fashioned way, preserving tradition.
