Yume
is a term with multiple meanings and references in the Zen Buddhism. In the way that a dream is both ephemeral and temporary, it can describe a life with attachment to the material world. In another interpretation, it is likened to a Keisaku 警策, the Master’s single blow with a stick, admonishing the student monk to “stop dreaming”.
