間雲 Aida Kumo, “Leisurely Cloud” 2

Clouds are a common metaphor in Zen poetry for the idea of non-attachment. Bankei Yōtaku (盤珪永琢, 1622-1693), Rinzai Zen master, expressed this as,

“Realize that your thoughts are ephemeral, and without either clutching at them,
or rejecting them, just let them come and go of themselves…”
